Tonya On-The-Hill is a highly skilled RN and Certified Diabetes Educator with 31 years of experience. Tonya is committed to the health and well-being of all our diabetes patients by providing individualized diabetes education as well as intensive blood glucose management. In 1990, Tonya started her career in healthcare by becoming an EMT. She realized that she was called to help others, so she enrolled at Pitt State and graduated from their nursing program in 1994. Tonya went to work on two Indian reservations, Crow/Northern Cheyenne, and White Mountain Apache where she learned a vast array of skills that would help her become the exceptional nurse she is today. Tonya’s skill level continued to grow after she joined Hastings Indian Medical Center in Tahlequah, OK. She also served eight years as a civil service member for Indian Health Services. In August of 2002, Tonya accepted a position here at NTHS and served as the Nurse Supervisor for the first 10 years. During her years as an RN, Tonya recognized a strong need for diabetes education within our native population, so in 2012, she made the decision to get certified as a diabetes educator. Since that time, Tonya has helped many of our patients learn how to manage their diabetes and live healthier lives.

She fulfilled that goal in 2015 when she and other community partners opened the Ottawa County Farmers Market. The market is still running strong and provides a variety of fresh produce for our community.
